NMLS individual identifier
The Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS) assigns every licensed Mortgage Loan Originator an individual identification number. This number is the single most important credential for verification — it allows regulators and consumers to look up an MLO's license status, employment history, and disciplinary record in every state where they hold a license.

To verify this license independently, visit this NMLS ID's record on Consumer Access. NMLS Consumer Access is the public verification service operated by the Conference of State Bank Supervisors. Use it to confirm any MLO's credentials before doing business with them, including this one — or use the site's own NMLS lookup helper for a walkthrough of what to check.
State license numbers
An NMLS individual ID is the federal-level identifier. Each state also issues its own state-specific MLO license, and that license number is required by that state's disclosure rules when operating within its jurisdiction. Current state license numbers aren't listed individually here — they change as licensure is added, renewed, or lapses in a given state — but every one of them is public record on this NMLS ID's Consumer Access record, which shows the complete, current, state-by-state list.
How to confirm it's really me
If someone contacts you claiming to be Mike Jaghnoun or representing Jahno, a few things to check:
- Any email from me comes from an address ending in @jahno.org. If the sender's address ends in anything else, it isn't me.
- Jahno doesn't cold-email or text with mortgage offers. If you want to reach me, the Contact page is the one channel I actually use.
- I will never ask for your Social Security number, bank login, or wire instructions by text or unsolicited email. Anyone asking for that outside a formal, in-progress loan file isn't me.
- You can verify my NMLS ID (1262992) any time on NMLS Consumer Access. If someone claiming to be me can't produce a matching ID, treat it as a red flag.
Required disclosures
Equal Credit Opportunity
It is illegal to discriminate against a credit applicant on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age (provided the applicant has the capacity to enter into a binding contract), because all or part of the applicant's income derives from any public assistance program, or because the applicant has in good faith exercised any right under the Consumer Credit Protection Act. The federal agency that administers compliance with this law is the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, 1700 G Street NW, Washington, DC 20552.
Fair Housing
Mike Jaghnoun is committed to the letter and spirit of U.S. policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity throughout the nation. No person is excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or otherwise subjected to discrimination in housing-related activities on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin.
Educational content, not personalized advice
The content published on Jahno is educational. It explains how mortgages, loan documents, and homebuying programs work in general terms. It does not constitute personalized financial, mortgage, legal, or tax advice. Specific advice about your situation requires a licensed professional reviewing your specific facts.
If you are considering or actively pursuing a mortgage, the appropriate path is to consult with a licensed Mortgage Loan Originator (which may include Mike Jaghnoun in a separate professional capacity, or any other licensed MLO of your choosing) about your specific circumstances. Comparing Loan Estimates from multiple lenders is recommended before committing to any loan.
State-specific advertising disclosures
Several states require specific advertising disclosure language for any communication that may be construed as a mortgage advertisement. Jahno is structured as a publication and is not an advertisement for mortgage origination services. However, in the interest of regulatory transparency, the following state-specific disclosures apply where applicable:
Other states: State-specific advertising disclosure requirements vary by state. The NMLS individual ID (1262992) is shown at the top of this page, and the complete, current, state-by-state license list is always accurate on this NMLS ID's Consumer Access record. For state-specific consumer complaint procedures, consult the relevant state's mortgage regulatory authority.
Publication independence
Jahno is operated by Mike Jaghnoun in an independent editorial capacity. The publication is structurally separate from any employer or sponsoring lender. Publication content is not influenced by employer business interests, is not coordinated with employer marketing, and does not promote any specific lender, broker, or settlement service provider.
The publication does not receive compensation from any settlement service provider regulated under RESPA, including lenders, mortgage brokers, title insurance companies, escrow agents, mortgage insurers, appraisers, or home inspectors. It carries no advertising, no sponsorships, and no affiliate links.
How to file a complaint
To file a regulatory complaint about an MLO's conduct, contact:
- State regulator: The mortgage regulatory authority in the state where the conduct occurred. State regulator contact information can be found through NMLS Consumer Access.
- Federal regulator: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau accepts complaints about mortgage products and services at consumerfinance.gov/complaint.
- For editorial concerns: Issues specifically about Jahno content (factual errors, corrections, ethical concerns about the publication itself) should go to the Contact page rather than to regulators, who do not have authority over editorial content.
