What we collect, and what we don't.

Jahno is a small, independent publication. This page explains, plainly, what information the site collects, why, and what it never does with it.

No ads. No cookies. No selling your address.

What's collected

Jahno collects an email address — and a name and message, if you include them — only when you submit the contact form or sign up for the newsletter. That's it. There are no user accounts and no sign-ins. Reading the site is counted only in aggregate, without cookies (see Analytics below).

Why

Solely to answer whatever you asked, or to send you the newsletter you asked for. Nothing you submit is used for anything else — not advertising, not profiling, not resold to anyone.

How long it's kept

Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to respond. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion.

Who processes it

Form submissions (contact and newsletter) are delivered by Web3Forms, a third-party form-relay service, and land in the publication's Microsoft 365 inbox, which is read directly by Jahno's editor. Web3Forms processes submissions only to deliver them to us, under its own privacy policy. Jahno never sells or shares submitted addresses, and never shares them with anyone for marketing.

If you choose to support Jahno, payment is handled entirely by Stripe on its own site; Jahno never receives your card details.

What isn't collected

No advertising trackers of any kind run on this site. No visitor data is sold to anyone, ever. The site sets no cookies of its own.

The only thing the site writes to your browser at all is a single, temporary flag in sessionStorage — used once, to smooth the visual handoff from the welcome animation back to the homepage. It holds no personal information, identifies no one, and is cleared automatically the moment it's used (and in any case disappears when you close the tab — sessionStorage never persists between visits). Every calculator on the site, including the ones on Where You Stand, runs entirely in your browser's memory for that one visit: nothing you type into a calculator is saved anywhere, sent anywhere, or readable the next time you load the page.

Analytics

Jahno uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how the site is used. It counts page views, visitors, referring sites, country, device type, and page-load performance.

It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, and doesn't fingerprint you or track you across other sites. The data is aggregate — it can't be tied to a person — and it's never sold or shared. When a page loads on jahno.org, your browser fetches a small script from Cloudflare and sends that page view to Cloudflare's analytics endpoint; Cloudflare processes it under its own privacy policy.

Hosting

Jahno is served by Netlify, which keeps standard server logs (IP address, pages requested, timestamps) the way effectively every web host does, for operating and securing the service. Jahno doesn't access those logs for anything beyond that.

Rates and news data

The live rates ticker at the top of every page and the News page both pull public data server-side — mortgage rate data from the Optimal Blue Mortgage Market Indices via the Federal Reserve's FRED API, and headlines from public RSS feeds (including the CFPB and Mortgage News Daily). Your browser never talks to those sources directly, and no information about you is ever sent to them. The only outside services your browser contacts are Web3Forms (when you submit a form) and Cloudflare's analytics endpoint (described above).

Your choices

  • Unsubscribe at any time by asking through the contact page. Once the newsletter is sending, every email will include an unsubscribe link.
  • Request that anything Jahno holds about you be deleted, any time, via the contact form.
  • Jahno doesn't knowingly collect information from children under 13, and nothing on the site is directed at children.
